Financial Reporting 101 for Board Members: $35 to Master the Basics

Text Wrap – Float Right with Border Video Screenshot

Before every board meeting you get a variety of financial info from your nonprofit – do you know what you’re looking at? Do you feel flustered because you don’t know the difference between a profit and loss vs. balance sheet? Not sure what net assets or cash vs. accrual means?

This Financial Reporting 101 video will give you the basic background you need to feel confident about reviewing such information, asking questions in your next board meeting – and thus fulfilling your board member fiduciary responsibility. (And no worries if you don’t know what “fiduciary responsibility” means – we will explain that too!)

Your trainer is Kelly Mathews, finance expert and COO of BoardStrong and the New York Council of Nonprofits. She has been providing financial training for nonprofits for nearly 30 years and will take you step-by step through financial reporting basics. This training was designed for board members with no financial expertise or experience.

The 1.5-hour video is divided into three parts that can be watched individually or together:

1. Board’s Role in Financial Oversight – Reviewing your responsibilities as a board member in financial management and oversight for your nonprofit.

2. Nonprofit Accounting 101 – Detailing the basics of nonprofit accounting to help you review your organization’s financial statements.

3. Internal Financial Reporting – Reviewing the details of two financial statements that are common for nonprofits, including, teaching what to look for in the Income Statement (also known as Statement of Activities) and Balance Sheet (also known as Statement of Financial Position).

The video cost is $35; complete the form below and the video link will be emailed to you for easy access. The video can be downloaded to review again and again, at your convenience.
